"Ennis High School: An Example of Excellence!" This is the conclusion drawn from a study of American high schools conducted by  U.S. News & World Report Magazine.

(Click  to View US News & World Report Article)

In this special report, published January 18, 1999, Ennis High School was named by the publication as one of the outstanding American high schools. In addition, Ennis High School was found to be among the top 96 American high schools, and among the top 9 high schools in Texas!

Education has long been a top priority for residents in the Ennis Independent School District. Our students exhibit outstanding performance in the classroom as well as in athletics and extracurricular activities.

The Ennis Independent School District (EISD), formed in 1881, covers an area of 253.8 square miles in the southeastern corner of Ellis County and extends into a small area of Navarro County. Four elementary schools; an intermediate school for grades four, five, and six; a junior high school for grades seven and eight, and a high school with a career center complete our student campuses.

An expanded technology program is in place on all campuses. Each teacher has a desktop computer which is used for grade book records, interoffice mail, the internet, and is networked with the entire district.

Who We Are:  St. John's School provides pre-kindergarten through 12th grade education in the Catholic tradition of balanced development of the entire person.  A full range of courses are offered, along with extensive extracurricular activities and athletic programs needed by students to prepare them for success throughout life.  Ninety-five percent of graduating seniors pursue higher education.

Founded in 1911: St. John's School has developed into a regional educational facility, drawing students from all parts of Ellis County, Navarro County, and southern Dallas County. St. John curriculum is one adopted by the Diocese of Dallas, and is in harmony with state curriculum regulations for accredited schools in Texas.

Academics:   Students must work hard to meet the challenges of academics at St. John's School, but have fun while doing so.  Learning is prized, and is rewarded in many ways.  Reading, writing, and speaking are top priorities.  Science and the Arts flourish, and computers are everywhere.

Clubs and activities are offered for every interest, from chess to honor societies.  Travel stretches student minds through trips from Dallas to Europe.

Spiritual Development:  Belief in a loving, personal God lies at the core of the educational experience at St. John's School.  Religion courses feature intelligent discussions, annual retreats for secondary students, and comprehensive service opportunities. Students  worship together in liturgies that they plan.

Athletics:   St. John's School offers multiple opportunities in every sport season for both girls and boys, at every level: Elementary, Junior Varsity and Varsity.  Coaches teach the whole person, and sportsmanship is required.  St. John has won numerous district and state T.A.P.P.S. championships.
